Chances are that you have heard about the new AxBuild tool which can reduce the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 compile time from hours to minutes (this particular test compile took just forty minutes).  The program can achieve such speed by performing a parallel compile.  It is worth taking the time to explore and use this new apparatus.

The command that I used to start the compile with ten workers was:

.\axbuild.exe xppcompileall /s=01 /workers=10

One thing that I want to highlight is the output from the compile.  The log file is located at:

“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\Server\<MicrosoftDynamicsAXName>\Log\AxCompileAll.html”

This file contains compile details like you would see in the development IDE in an html file.

Now here's something to look out for.  I have encountered an issue when the AxBuild tool crashes after the compile is complete.

There are two things that should be done to avoid error this error:

  1. Be sure the account using the AxBuild tool has no less permission than the AOS.  -Technet
  2. Be sure to run the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Management Shell in administrator mode.

After ensuring the correct permissions and launching the shell in administrator mode, the compile completed and wrote the log file without issue.
